We are taking today about hair masks! If you are like Stella Nova Essentials, and live in a dry climate, we feel you! Calgary is a dry city. We don't have many big bodies of water around us, and lucky us, we have nice cool air! (Insert sarcasm) We wanted to share with you our most favorite tried and true hair masks that are all natural and contain coconut oil. Coconut oil conditions deeply, as well as adds shine and softness. It therefore can help prevent split ends and hair breakage. Here are our top 3 Coconut Oil hair masks. The first is pretty darn basic... Added bonuses are that the overall benefits of coconut oil for your skin and body, mean it's a one stop shop for your skin and hair needs!
Coconut Oil. That simple. Unrefined is best. The less processing means the less chemicals, and all natural! Warm a desired amount in your palm. Massage into your scalp and comb through your ends. Wrap your hair in a towel and let the oil do its work! The length of time you leave the oil in your hair is really up to you. Some leave it in for 15-20 mins, while others put it in dry hair at night and sleep with it. One little note to mention is that if you are prone to an oily scalp, you may not want to saturate your scalp. (A build up could potentially cause acne). Otherwise that simple, that fast, you have a single ingredient hair mask. No fuss!
Let's get cracking on our second simplest coconut hair mask. Drum roll please..... Coconut oil and egg whites. Yup, two basic ingredients found in your kitchen! Whip these two ingredients together in equal amounts. It's ideal to leave in for about 15 mins. Rinse with warm water, shampoo and condition as normal.
Last, and our most favorite! Coconut Oil & Avocado hair mask. Yessss! Our two favorite cooking ingredients untie to give us an amazing hair mask that you will be soon using as your go - to for hair hydration! Take one medium sized ripe avocado, and a few tablespoons of unrefined coconut oil. Best to process in a food processor to ensure no clumps and lumps. You can also add a few drops of essential oil of your liking. Cover your hair evenly and leave in for about 20 mins. Rinse and shampoo out. One of our best hair masks that we have tried! This is truly a game changer in your beauty routine.
Tip: As mentioned throughout our post, it really does benefit to choose an unrefined coconut oil. They can be slightly more expensive, but the less processing the better. Tip: We also recommend a good sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. Again, less chemicals, more hydration! Here is a shampoo that we truly love by: 'The Body Shop'. Relatively inexpensive, and a great sulfate free option! https://www.thebodyshop.com/hair-care/shampoo/rainforest-moisture-shampoo/p/p000153.
